Description

Private house
Lian, Trondheim
Completed 2015

The house is situated in a dense pine forest in the outskirts of Trondheim, with strict regulations regarding size, height and roof angle. The site is steep with views in two directions. One facing the city and the fjord, and the other showing the small lake of Lianvannet with its surounding forest. The plan of the house is based on this context, with a systematic zig-zag plan giving all rooms views in both directions. The house is rigorous in form, expression and detailing. All rooms are close to the view, the light and the surrounding nature. A narrow terrace surrounds the house as a sharp horizontal line between the building and the landscape, almost like a japanese traditional engawa. The interior is clean and simple keeping the views and the thick floor of douglas pine in focus. The exterior walls are clad with burned and oiled spruce boards mounted vertically and flush.
