Description Original Language (Spanish)

The Baztán Valley is an enclave to the north of Navarra, bordering France, naturally privileged, surrounded by mountains and made up of small towns.

The demolition of an old and famous school left an empty space for the promotion of economic activity in the valley. The implantation of the first building in the area generated some concern in the population about the possible impact of a pharmaceutical candy factory -an engineering company presented a first project with a hard and resounding volumetry-. The assignment comes as a request to solve the relationship between volumetry and environment.

The project, therefore, is proposed as a reflection on the relationship between volumetry and place. In general, the buildings in the valley are small farmhouses with sloping roofs, which by aggregation make up the image of the towns. On the other hand, the omnipresent undulating geometry of the surrounding mountains appears. The result is an exercise in the aggregation of roofs as an interpretation of the addition of architectures that helps configure a volume capable of linking tradition and nature.

Internally, the project obeys functional requirements derived from an industrial process. The project optimizes resources, volume and circulation, to provide it with maximum flexibility and adaptation to processes.

Constructively, the project is resolved with a simple steel structure and a single enveloping material of corrugated metal sheet, -facade and roof-, offering a slatted image that tries to recall -conceptually-, some slatted wood constructions blackened by the passage of time, typical of these latitudes.
