Description

The planned site is located in a quiet residential area along the peripheral border of Tokyo. The site area is 661.16 m² (200 tsubo), which is large in the city and connected to roads on the south and west sides. The owner chose the large site with good connections to the roads because of parking his supercar collection. The owner presented his essential conditions: being able to park his six cars, including supercars, stress-free and installing an indoor 20-meter swimming pool.
The roads on the south and west sides are gentle slopes. The height of a supercar is low, so I made a plan in which the wide road on the south side with a gentler slope is an entrance for the cars so that the bottom of the car would not scrape on the access from the slope to the site. Although cars are usually parked facing the road using the site frontage due to parking efficiency, six cars placed along the slope would not make the façade look neat and beautiful. So, I made a plan in which cars go into the site from one place and turn at the large courtyard in the center of the site and divide them to the right and left for parking. The cloister is arranged at the back of the courtyard and the indoor 20-meter swimming pool is arranged extending the whole length from east to west across the tree garden to the north. Thus, the hobby space is on the first floor and the everyday space is arranged on the second floor. On the second floor, I arranged space for housework and privacy, such as individual rooms and the bathroom in the north side, which is connected to the highly public space of the gallery, living room, and dining room across the bridge over the tree garden to the south. All six beloved cars can be seen from the gallery with a function as a junction with a migratory plan. They can be seen every time the owner moves in the house, and thus he can feel nature and see his beloved cars in daily life. I made a design so that the residents can see the courtyard from various three-dimensional viewpoints in the horizontal direction and the vertical direction, so a diverse and rich scenery is developed when the residents move in the house.
For the finish of the walls, reduction-firing tiles were polished on the site to create a weathering effect, and shadows are created by using cedar formwork, which creates an expressive and elegant atmosphere. A large house often becomes a boring space without accents. However, I created a rich space with various scenes by three-dimensionally placing a number of elements connected to the variety of the courtyard in the enclosed site and thus used the site without waste. The residents lead a rich life feeling six beloved cars from the gallery.
