Description

The site is located on a low hill in Yokohama. I designed a new program of a two-family house + office while taking over the memory of this family property. The building volume is divided so that the appearance corresponds to the scale of the surrounding houses. The base is concrete retaining walls, with piano nobile mold concrete and the white mass of the office. Each volume is made of the shape that symbolizes the function of the inside. I designed the interior space facing the old pine tree with memory of its history. The LDK of the parent household is located with the old pine tree in the center. By making the exterior walls continuous with the inside, the integrated feeling of the terrace and living room is created. The entrance is shared with the family of the children household and the office. In the entrance hall, stairs to the second floor of the children’s household is symbolically designed. This stairwell is a space that symbolizes this building: various volumes appearing outside show its presence into the space, and soft sunlight comes from the rooftop. I designed the interior of the office with the base colors of white and black matching the landscape. Yokohama Port can be seen from the second floor, so I designed an open space for the children household so that they can fully enjoy this scenery. The feeling of integration with the outside space was increased by connecting the LDK to the roof terrace; thus, I achieved an inside space opening to the sky. These three functions keep the close relationship with each outside space, and yet they can feel the air of each other. Thus, a comfortable distance is maintained in this structure.
