Description
Located near Christchurch central city, the Peak Townhouses are designed for medium-density urban living. The brief was to provide 4 free-standing townhouses that would capture sun and provide private indoor – outdoor living away from the street edge. Accessed via an internal courtyard, each unit features striking façades and bold forms that contain the calm atmosphere within.
The units are composed around a shared courtyard space, allowing domestic entrances to be removed from the street and enhancing the scenery by providing opportunities for planting and greenery. The activities at street level below can be observed from rooms above, stimulating a sense of community and security. These floating corner windows appear to dissolve into the skyline, silhouetted beyond are the full height cedar clad walls and unique angular roof forms. Below are the cantilevered steel pergolas, which signify the formal entrance to each unit and provide further opportunity for planting and greenery. The spaces within are well equipped for modern living, carefully positioned to capture sunlight, with each unit featuring an open plan living area and fully glazed double height void and mezzanine. The living spaces open out from the corners onto private patios with space for outdoor living and garden. Opposite the living and dining is a modern kitchen which is fully integrated with the building designs. Leading to the first floor is the sunlight central stair with externally fixed cedar privacy screen. This ascent gives way to a floating walkway which creates a link between the master bedroom suite and two additional bedrooms, plus bathroom.
