Description Original Language (Catalan)

As part of the Rubí Operations Center (COR), the main building is the workshop building that concentrates the maintenance and repair activities of the mobile and fixed railway units.

The existing ship is formed by a central rectangular body with a deep piling foundation and a light metal structure forming a large curved roof illuminated zenithally by skylights that follow the same curvature.
This diaphanous rectangular body with large crugies is surrounded by a perimeter built ring with surface foundation and prefabricated concrete structure with more conventional crugies that contains warehouses and offices, among others.

The new extension, in addition to increasing the surface of the existing workshop, is conceived knowing that it brings a new image to the whole and, therefore, must be formally and materially integrated with the existing set of workshops and the rest of the COR.

This is carried out only in the central part of the workshop building, without expanding the perimeter bodies with prefabricated concrete structure and is based on the repetition of 4 new metal studs equal to the existing ones (each stud is approximately 6.75m, between axes), with extension dimensions of approximately a total of 27x70m and a surface area of 1,831.50m2. The extension, carried out towards the north, has 4 sets of skylights; one for each crugia.
The east and west facades are made with opaque enclosures with the same materials and construction solutions as the old ship in order to maintain continuity, but with different formalization, through large inclined planes in the facades that link the floor of the ship with the level of the lower limit of the current roof, where the water collection channel is located.

It is a timeless project where adaptations to new programmatic and technological requirements are imperceptible, highlighting the conceptual flexibility and durability of the initial project.
