Description Original Language (Catalan)

In 2015, motivated by the need to carry out water separation in the village, the Commune of Canillo organized a competition of ideas which were won by PROTERRA (JUAN CARLOS JURADO) AND MIQUEL MERCE ARQUITECTE, who at the request of the Commune carried out a project in four phases. Today, with two phases already executed, most of the services have been renovated and updated, accompanied by the finishing work, the image of the core has been completely transformed thanks to the will of the authors to "prioritize recovery over remodeling ".

The old town of Canillo, like most historic centers in our country, is the sum of a set of private buildings (full) that did not follow a regular and orderly pattern, this gives shape to an urban space (empty) very rich volumetrically: streets, alleys, small squares, main street, main square...

The remodeling project of the center of Canillo must recover and value this heritage identity and historical wealth, and it does so through the work of the furniture and especially the light, as well as working to make the presence of the car less obvious in this environment unique Giving the urban space back to the village, and to its inhabitants, thus giving more life to the street.

For a better adaptability to a very variable environment in terms of the dimensions of the public space, a continuous pavement of slightly flamed beige granite is proposed in the "plaza" spaces of the nucleus, and asphalt pavement according to the criteria of the Commune in the rest of the spaces This solution allows you to generate two qualities and apply them according to needs. Regarding the Urban Furniture and the lighting, it is proposed to work with Furniture from the company "GrisVerd", and for the lighting a custom design will be made, this combination, due to its materiality, geometry and above all flexibility with different formats and sizes they fully adapt to the variations in the urban space of the Canillo core.

Urban projects deserve important historical reflection, and the project aims to make things felt that are absent rather than to create a sense of presence for lost things. That is why, thanks to historical research and design work, all the brands of the parish's families have been redrawn (more than 120 different designs) and materialized. These 854 marks, as well as the names of the houses in their original location, have been embedded in the pavement, to pay tribute to those who made the Canillo we know today possible.

Each of the squares has also been treated individually to transform them into qualitative and humanized spaces that allow citizen appropriation.: Plaça de l'Areny with an informative bus stop, Plaça del Pui with catenaries for temporary installations , plaça del molí with recovery of the history of the town's mills... This work is intended to continue in later phases.

Similarly, most of the drinking water, electricity and telephone services, as well as other existing facilities and infrastructures, have been renovated and updated. These works have been carried out with very little disturbance to the inhabitants and road systems, due to the programming and constructive systems used.
