Urban Prototype in MexicoDesign Presentation

Starting from its definition a vacuum cleaner is a device that uses an air pump, to create a partial vacuum to aspirate dust and dirt.

The resolutive urban prototype we propose it can be envisioned as a sort of vacuum cleaner, that cleans the earth from the human sprawling.
The idea is to elevate the inhabitants of the two major slums of the Mexican capital and to give them a new space to live where urban standards are set to increase the quality of life. At the same time we want to regenerate the original eco-system, letting nature to breath again and giving back a clean natural environment to the other animal species living those areas much before humans.

Our proposal is based on the idea that in origin Mexico City was a big lake (Texcoco) and afterwards the growth of population has involved enormous pressure on natural ecosystem, with woods and ravines being occupied, and lakes and rivers drying up. With Vacuum Cleaner 2116 we want to reforest the metropolis through the insertion of a vectorial habitat that collects the most significant slums’s inhabitants of the city (Naucalpan de Juàrez and Ciudad Nezahualcóyotl), giving back the previous natural situation and implementing an ecological corridor in the city. This structure is thought to stand above the city from east to west, where these two slums are located, but also from north to south, following the former aztec urban guidelines of Tenochtitlán and the orography of the mountains surrounding the city.

A continuous liner vector that touches the ground in certain points, becoming part of the mountainous landscape.
Moreover the vector is provided with a Rapid Transit Infrastructure that ensures an horizontal connection and it joints the different branches of the vector above the city.
