Description

On a steep slope in the southern outskirts of Stockholm, a set of building volumes find their way into the surrounding small-scale urban context. The building consists of an attic floor, two stories, a sous-terrain and a basement. In total, 16 apartments are created, where the ground floor apartments are constructed as duplex units with a direct access to the shared garden on the back side. The upper floor apartmens have private terraces with views over stockholm and lake Mälaren.

The gable is directed towards the street side, as a gesture to the surrounding context and as a consequence to the asymmetrical layout of the plot. There is a wish to articulate the villa typology and to emphasize the vertical dynamics of the envelope.

Concrete is used in the project as a plastic material that unifies landscape, volume and challenges around accessibility. Within the concrete structure, the individual apartments reveal themselves as timber units. The building renders itself simply and discretely, but is refined in the meeting between concrete, timber and steel details.
